Trunk Show Begins Today!

Here's a quick snapshot of one of the Trunk Show gowns from Angelina Bridal Couture.  We've been unpacking and getting these gowns ready over the past few days and as always, we are so in love with the gorgeous fabrics and quality of these gowns.

The linings are so soft, the details are so perfect...

The gown pictured above is style #1401, and is silk organza and french lace.

Call for your Trunk Show appointment; the gowns will be at September's Bride through Saturday, January 8.

What is a Trunk Show?

December 30 through January 8 is our Trunk Show featuring the 2011 gowns from Angelina Bridal Couture.

What is a Trunk Show?

Most bridal boutiques carry a few carefully chosen gowns from each of their designers or manufacturers.  A Trunk Show is when a designer will send a much larger selection of their gowns for a limited amount of time. Usually, the newest and the most popular gowns are included.  It is called a "Trunk Show" because this collection of gowns will travel from store to store in a "trunk" (more likely to be boxes in our modern age).

At September's Bride, we offer 2-3 bridal gown trunk shows a year, along with a trunk show featuring bridal veils in April, and our ever-popular jewelry trunk shows with Meg Lammers in March and April.

Appointments are always recommended for the gown trunk shows and we also offer a discount on bridal gowns from the featured designer during the trunk show dates.

We would love to show off the gorgeous Angelina Bridal Couture gowns to you this week and next!  Angelina gowns are from an American designer, hand-tailored in the finest silks and laces.  Not heavily embellished, designer Angela Padron prefers to let the fabric and design be the focal point for her wedding gowns. Classic but modern at the same time, these are some of our favorite gowns at September's Bride!

And...September's Bride is the only bridal boutique in Michigan where you can find these fabulous gowns.

Wraps for a Winter's Eve...

A winter wedding can be so beautiful and romantic! However, I hate to see a bride or her maids have to throw on a wool coat (or worse, a ski jacket!) over a beautiful gown while dashing between venues.

A much better option is to purchase OR RENT a lovely faux fur. At September's Bride, we have several sizes and styles available. This weekend, one of our brides reserved matching wraps for herself, her six bridesmaids, and two flowergirls! Imagine the beautiful photos.

We also have faux fur shrugs in a beautiful sable color, perfect for Moms and your Mistress of Ceremonies. Treat yourself and the special women in your wedding to a little affordable luxury for your special day

From the Wedding Planner :: Anniversary Journal

Michelle Torno, our Lead Planner for EVENTS by September's Bride, also writes a blog, focusing on wedding planning.  This weekend, she posted the following idea and I thought it was fabulous, so I am sharing it here to be sure all of our readers see it.  My husband and I have been married over 18 years, but I don't think it's too late to start our Anniversary Journal.

A few years ago I bought a journal. The title on the front says "Cherished Hopes, Treasured Dreams". It is a pretty book with a quote on every few pages like: "Recall it as often as you wish, a happy memory never wears out." - Libbie Fudim. The purpose of this journal was to record Derek's and my marriage so that someday when our children and grandchildren wanted to have that history, it would be all written down for them. My goal was to write in it on every anniversary and tell about the past year in our life together. A wonderful and beautiful goal, I believed and still do.
I just came across this journal again while organizing and when I flipped it open I noticed I have only recorded one year of our seven together. At first it made me sad, then I wondered why this is and I think that every time I come across the journal it isn't our anniversary so I set it aside until the next year. What a stupid thought! Just because it's not the exact date of our wedding doesn't mean I can't reminisce about the year that has just past us.

Do you do anything special to document your years together? Maybe this would be a great thing to begin on your honeymoon together. Reminisce about the wedding and talk about your goals for the future.

New Arrival :: Angelina Couture 1201

Here is another gorgeous gown by Angelina Couture!  It is a beautiful fit-n-flare silhouette with raw-cut textural flowers at the hip in both front and back.  Sweetheard neckline with wrapped ruching around the bodice.

Angelina gowns are not only made of silk, they are lined with silk!  Often, when a bride is trying on one of these gowns at September's Bride, she mentions that the lining feels like butter, it is so soft and supple!

Of course, like most gowns at our boutique, this gown can be customized for you.  More or less flowers, different placement, straps...it's easy to have some fun!

Bridal Headband

More and more brides are opting to choose hair jewelry over a veil as part of their wedding ensemble.

Even more brides wear a veil for the ceremony, and then decide to change to fashionable and more comfortable hair jewelry for the reception.

This headband that Rachel is wearing above is actually the Bethany necklace by MEG Jewelry. Imagine wearing the piece as a necklace for the ceremony and then changing it to a headband for your reception and party!

So many of Meg's designs are meant to work this way; extending the life of each design beyond your wedding, too. Another reason we absolutely love MEG Jewlery and the designer, Meg Lammers!

SB Bride :: Emily

Emily was such a sweet and easy bride to serve!  We were honored to be part of her wedding day.  Here is what she had to say about September's Bride::

Hi Tami-

I know this is a little late, but I figured better now than never! I wanted to say a BIG thank you to you and your staff (especially Rachel) for all of your help and patience while I was shopping, buying, and altering my dress. You all were so helpful and friendly to me (and my never-ending entourage!) from the minute I walked in the door. I went to several places trying on gowns in both Indiana and Michigan before I came to September's Bride and from the first visit you all had me sold.

I appreciate all the accommodating you did for me since I live in Indiana. I know you didn't have to make special appointment times, etc for me but everyone was always more than willing to help. Whenever I had questions, I knew all I had to do was pick up the phone and Rachel was always eager to answer them. You and your staff made long distance dress buying a breeze and I'm so happy with your service!

In addition, my dress turned out beautiful! I couldn't have asked for anything better! It really made my day, I felt like a beautiful bride all day and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day.

Thank you so much for making the dress buying experience pleasant and stress free. I would definitely recommend you to everyone! I'm attaching some pictures from our wedding day for you to look at!

Thanks again-

Emily

At September's Bride, we love to customize!  Often, one of the first things that we tell brides who visit us is that almost all of our gowns can be customized and changed to make it "theirs".

Necklines...
Train Lengths...
Beading...
Colors...
Sleeves...
Skirt Shapes...
Fabric...

Our newest designer, Stephanie James Couture, is no exception!  Just visit her blog to see her gowns on real brides in many sizes and shapes.  There are also many "versions" of the same gown, to give other brides endless ideas!

Gown Shopping at SB

What should you expect when visiting September's Bride to shop for your wedding gown?

Well, you can expect a friendly greeting shortly after you arrive. The consultant will probably ask whether or not you have an appointment.  If you made an appointment, we will have a fitting room and a consultant ready for you.  If you are just stopping in, no worries!  We'll do everything we can to accomodate you.

At first, your consultant will take just a few moments to explain how the store is arranged, will ask you a little about your wedding and if you've been shopping for gowns.  She will also ask if you need a strapless bra with which to try on gowns; we have lots of sizes, and definitely recommend at least trying to use our favorite style.

Your consultant will then let you browse our gown selection and choose some gowns that you would like to try.  She will probably make a few suggestions, too. Our suggestions are usually based on your descriptions of what you like or a gown that we know would look fabulous on your body shape.

Once there are several gowns ready in your fitting room, it's time to start trying them on!  We have a gorgeous fitting area upstairs in our store which is reserved for appointments and also used for walk-in customers if it is not already being used.  Your "entourage" may relax while we offer as much or little help as you desire. Your consultant will be nearby with ready hands, clips, and tips.  Trying on gowns at September's Bride is fun and pressure-free.  We want you to enjoy yourself and feel beautiful.

LWEP Social

This past Tuesday evening, September's Bride was blessed to host the November social for LWEP (Lakeshore Wedding & Event Professionals).  This is a group facilitated by Michelle Torno of EVENTS by September's Bride.  About 20-40 wedding photographers, florists, cake bakers, event planners, and other wedding & event pros get together 4-6 times a year to network, share ideas, and have fun.

At this social, we had a little fun and asked a few florists to bring their best interpretation of a "non-traditional autumn centerpiece".  We had fun voting for our favorites. We also tasted cake from Second Floor Bakery, made new acquaintances, and visited with old friends.

What I Love about SB...

Thank you so much for the wonderful service you gave me when I wandered in, completely clueless about dress shopping. Your knowledge and patience was much appreciated!

You encouraged me to try different styles that I would never put on myself - and I loved them!

I especially fell in love with this Mermaid dress with a clip off bottom!

Even when I felt a tickle in my throat, bottled water was quickly given to me :)

I felt comfortable and special, and walked away with a better grasp of what I want.

I was surprised to see a personal thank you card sent to me a few days later!

Thank you SB, for everything you have and continue to do!

What I Love about SB...

The staff of your store is wonderful! I always felt welcomed and they have been very accommodating with my out of town wedding party members. The store front is always very appealing and ever since the opening of the store I looked forward to the day that I would be able to go in and start shopping there! Thanks for all the wonderful help and beautiful bridesmaid and flower girl dresses to complete my day!

They even helped me with making the dress something that was more my price range!!!! I absolutely love this store and the people there and am looking forward to getting my dress, bridesmaids dresses and hopefully the guys tux there too! Thanks so very much for making my experience awesome!

If you're looking for a gorgeous and fashionable, yet very comfortable wedding gown, this is the one for you!

From American designer, Angelina Couture, comes this silk dupioni ball-gown with a natural waist, ruched bodice bodice and absolutely fabulous ruffled halter with a flattering V-shape.  There are pockets hidden in the side seams of the full skirt, the perfect place to hide your lip gloss and an embroidered hanky.

September's Bride is the only store in Michigan, and one of a handful in the entire Midwest where you can find this fabulous, independent designer.  We will be featuring a Trunk Show from Angelina Couture during December 30 - January 8, when you can see the entire Spring 2011 line and favorite gowns.  The gown pictured above is part of our collection and September's Bride and you can see it right now!

Usually, I share photos of our brides on the blog whenever I can.  Here is a photo of one of "our" grooms, though. Peyton, his groomsmen, and fathers all got their sharp tuxes from September's Bride.  They were great guys to work with and all looked really great!

Bridesmaid Colors

I have a new favorite saying when I'm working at September's Bride,

"Every woman looks good in purple"

It's true!  Purple has become one of the hottest colors for bridesmaids for 2011, especially in eggplant and bordeaux.  What are the other popular colors for 2011 wedding parties to wear?

1.  Kelly Green
2.  Sunny Yellow
3.  Platinum
4.  Watermelon
5.  Black

We're often asked our advice for the use of color in bridal parties.  Here are my top tips...

1.  If you really want your bridesmaids to consider wearing their dress again, choose black, brown, platinum, red, or light pink.
2.  You can't go wrong with black tuxes for the men in your party.  YES, they definitely need to wear a jacket for the ceremony, and NO, they do not have to have their vests/ties match the bridesmaids.  They are not going to prom :)

As I mentioned in my last post, the September's Bride leadership team just returned from Chicago's Bridal Market.

What did we see?

2.  Ruffles

5.  Silk Dupioni
6.  Ribbon Appliques
7.  Raw Edges
8.  Lace
9.  Beaded Straps
10. Boleros & Jackets

Here are a few photos from Justin Alexander's collection to share the inspiration for 2011.

Chicago Bridal Market

This weekend, Rachel and I, along with our husbands, attended the National Bridal Market in Chicago.  We had a great time.  For us, the highlight of market is seeing our favorite vendors, like Rod & Meg Lammers of MEG Jewelry, Jeff & Jenny Koll of Jennifer Leigh Veils, Luis & Angela Padron of Angelina Bridal Couture, and Stephanie Kennedy of Stephanie James Couture.

We also viewed and bought gowns from the new collections of Casablanca Bridal, Maggie Sottero Bridal, and Justin Alexander Bridal.

And, what would Market be without finding some new pretties to bring into the store?  Sondra Roberts  is a well-known line of handbags and clutches, featured frequently in fashion magazines.  We were delighted to discover their bridal line and purchase some gorgeous little bags for women to use at weddings and other special occasions.

Here is one fun photo that we took at Market.  Rachel and her husband, Mauricio, are posing in our hotel lobby next to the Jasmine Bridal sign.

SB Bride :: Julie (Why we do what we do)

A few weeks ago, I posted a photo of Julie at her final fitting in a gown that we specially designed for her with lace from her mother's gown.  Last weekend was Julie's wedding and today I received this note and a few snapshots from her.

To the talented women at Septembers Bride!

The wedding this past weekend was a complete success and best day

EVER! Thanks of course, in part to the most wonderful dress and veil!!

I'm attaching some low-quality photos that I found on facebook from

some friends and I'll show you the professional ones when I get them.

The veil was so great I didn't take it off the whole night! We even

had a bonfire from 10 - midnight and I just didn't want to take it off

-- when will I ever get the chance to wear it again? Might as well

soak it up!

I spent most of the evening answering everyone's questions about how

the dress was put together -- it was SUCH a hit!

Thanks to you two and Sherry for all of the work you put into it and

your patience with me as we figured out how to put it all together. It

was absolutely perfect.

We are going on a super extended honeymoon so I probably won't be able

to send you any more photos until november but I certainly will when

we return.

thanks again!!

julie

Something Old, Something New

Several months ago, Julie and her mom, Sue, came to September's Bride to meet with Tami & Sherry about restoring Sue's wedding gown for Julie to wear for her wedding.  Unfortunately, Sue's gown was unable to be restored completely.  So, we all worked together on Plan B.

Julie purchased a beautifully-constructed but very simple gown by Lila Couture.  Our seamstress, Sherry, then carefully removed lace from Sue's gown and used it to re-design and embellish the new gown.  This gave Julie her own perfect gown, mixing the modern simplicity that she desired with the tradition of wearing her Mom's lace.  She also had our veil designer attach more of her Mom's lace to a veil to make an absolutely gorgeous mantilla to wear with the gown.

Here is Julie at her final fitting.

Trunk Show :: Stephanie James Couture

I fell in love with the gowns by Stephanie James Couture back in Fall of 2007 when we opened September's Bride.  At that time, we could only dream of featuring these beautiful gowns in our boutique.

Stephanie James is well-known around the world and Kleinfeld's recently featured three of her gowns in their legendary window displays!

We will be having a Trunk Show with at least a half-dozen gowns by Stephanie James Couture this September for our Anniversary Celebration.  This will coincide with our semi-annual MEG Jewelry Trunk Show.  So, definitely plan on visiting September's Bride on September 24, 25, & 26 of this year.

Stay tuned for more details.

SB Favorite :: Justin Alexander 8465

Isn't this the most FUN wedding gown ever?  A favorite in the tea-length for an informal or destination wedding, this gown also comes in a full-length version with a chapel train for a more formal feel.

In this display, we kept a formal color scheme with classic accessories and a simple bridesmaid's frock that could be worn again for many events.  I love the touches of "something blue" in the silk garter and the hair bloom by Pixel & Hank Couture.

Gorgeous Wedding Pearls

To me, the perfect wedding jewelry will complete your look on your wedding day; bring attention to your face, and then remain a favorite piece of jewelry for years to come.

My mother's wedding pearls and diamond earrings were loaned to me for my 13th birthday, worn to my senior banquet, and my wedding rehearsal.  For my own wedding, I received my own heirloom pieces that I still enjoy wearing regularly.

Our newest jewelry designer, Anne Bliss, sent me these photos of an absolutely fabulous 3-strand pearl necklace with ivory and champagne pearls that she designed for one of our brides.  Since our bride has decided to "tweak" the design a little for herself; but I fell in love with this piece, I am bringing it into September's Bride as a sample piece!

SB Favorite :: Angelina Couture 904

Our newest independent designer, Angela Padron, designs a line that she named "Angelina Couture".  These gowns are fabulous!  Here is Style 904 in ivory.  Simple in design, but full of beautiful organza ruffles down the back of the skirt and train, this gown is not only one of our newest favorites, but has also been a favorite with our customers.  I accessorized it with the "Morina" necklace from MEG Jewelry.

Our "Favorite" gown this week is tucked in a vignette  done in one of our "Favorite" color themes; ivory & chocolate.  This color is perfect for any summer or fall wedding.  Here, we are using raspberry red as an accent color, but equally as pleasing is buttercup yellow, sky blue, or mango!

To see both the gown and the display in person, stop in September's Bride this week!

SB Favorites :: Casablanca 1992

In our window right now is Style 1992 from Casablaca Bridal.  I love this gown, it is truly a modern classic.  Here it is in all white; we also have this gown in ivory with champagne inset at September's Bride.  This is also a gown that we carry in two sizes; so any bride can try it on!

Also on the dress form is the "LeAnne" necklace by MEG Jewelry.  This piece has a removable back-drop that doubles as a bracelet!  The window display is finished with navy blue accents and white feathers; very inspiring!
