These neighbors on the color wheel lend themselves to an elegant and formal celebration. Although this color combination can work in any season and venue, today's vision is for an indoor, winter wedding. I love how the lavender reminds us of the icy beauty of winter, while the red really warms things up.

For the bride, an ivory gown is so beautiful in an indoor setting with candlelight. Your maids can wear red floor-length dresses; use a red that has a cool blue undertone rather than a warm, yellow undertone. Lavender or dark purple shoes peeking out from both the bride's and the maid's hems would be fabulous. Wouldn't amethysts be beautiful in the jewelry? Put your sweet flower girl in a short, full, lavender silk dress tied with a red sash. For the men, I love charcoal with all shades of purple AND with red, so charcoal tuxes are a must. Vest and ties in the same shade of red as the maids would be great on the groomsmen, while your groom can stay in ivory to match you. For Moms, ask them to wear shades of purple, from light lavender to rich amethyst.

I hope you've enjoyed this short series on modern color schemes. If you have photos of a fun color scheme that you or a friend has used, please share them with me!September's Bride...a fresh approach to formal.
