Are June Brides still the most popular?

A survey by the Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC) concluded that June is the fifth most popular month for weddings.

My Mother was a June Bride; she wanted to get married as soon as possible after graduating from high school! My husband and I were married in September, after he graduated from college and spent a few months at his new job.

I think most weddings are planned around our life's circumstances, but probably not as much as our ancestor's were.

June traditionally was the month for weddings, says ABC, because in an older time, it was after planting and before harvest. In the last century, when it was common to get married shortly after graduation, it was. . . shortly after graduation. And, in an even earlier period, it was after the roads had dried out.

In these days of more convenient travel, air conditioning, heated buildings, and modern conveniences, increasing numbers of weddings are planned when churches and reception sites are available, and when the season fits the "theme" of the wedding.

In the ABC rankings February ranks next to last, but it is still the month of love and romance. More diamonds are sold from Thanksgiving through St. Valentine’s Day than the rest of the year.

Here are the ABC rankings:

January 3%

February 3.8%

March 6.3%

April 7.3%

May 9.9%

June 11.5%

July 12.3%

August 11.5%

September 11.8%

October 11.6%

November 6.4%

December 4.7%

No matter which month you choose for your wedding and no matter why you choose it, that month becomes part of your story and your family. Each year, as September approaches, Jeff and I begin thinking about our anniversary celebration. Do we want to go North and enjoy some fall color? Hawaii is supposed to be great in the late summer! Perhaps we will just take a day off to enjoy the beautiful time of year in West Michigan and visit one of our favorite restaurants.

Why did you choose your wedding month? I'd love to hear your story!

September's Bride...a fresh approach to formal.

I chose to be married in May because it has always been my favorite time of year. The spring flowers, the smell of fresh air, usually not too cold but not too warm yet either. It just makes me happy! Thankfully it worked out with our timeline too. Interesting post!

June made sense to us--and it worked out so we had an extra day on our honeymoon as a 'holiday' since it fell on 4th of July!

My husband and I got married in December. If I did it again, I might make a different decision, but I made the decision in the first place for the right reasons.

1. We didn't want to be engaged very long (we had dated for 4.5 years) and got engaged in September.
and
2. I desperately wanted my sister to be at my wedding and she was already planning to be in town in December (she lives in South Africa). So if we had our wedding in the summer, we would have to shell out some big bucks to get her back. :)
